Spring Fun on the Farm

I think this is a cute picture of the kids and the playhouse. It has been such a warm winter and spring so far that we have been spending so much time outside. Emory and I have recently overhauled the playhouse. We cleaned out all of the winter dirt and finally got Josh, with Papa's help to fix the playhouse so that so much dirt won't blow in anymore. We are hoping the fix keeps the wasps out too. Now all we need to do (Mommy really!) is finish painting the ceiling and the inside of the door. That is where I left off nearly three years ago when I started getting so sick during my pregnacy with Owen.

The Big 5

Emory is 5! And, boy are we excited.

She took a friend to the circus and had two family birthday parties. It is hard for me to believe that I am a mother of a 5 year old. Where did the time go?

Kindergarten is right around the corner and I am suddenly worried. Her sweet innocence might just fly right out the door on that first day of school. What if she doesn't enjoy reading like her mommy does, or worse if she just hates school? Oh! I hope she loves it. It will be a big year (for all of us).

Picture update

The kids and I at Wendy's after a morning of class in Emporia. Mom and Dad are kind enough to meet us before class on Fridays to get the kids, watch the kids all weekend, and bring the kids back to Emporia Sunday afternoon after class is over. I couldn't do it without them!

Have I mentioned that I only have this summer of actual classes left before my practicum? I am so psyched! 7 hours of class that actually apply to my future career choice! Hip, Hip!

Bad Blogger Am I

Believe it or not, there is actually a little guilt going on for not paying as much attention to this blog as I had once hoped I would. I have found that life does truly get in the way. So much has happened on the farm since my last post. I will try to recap...
* We now have a new beautiful cement sidewalk stretching from the porch all the way to the garage. The kids love to play on it as it is the only clean cement we have. There are always beautiful murals adorning its surface by the renowned sidewalk chalk artist...Miss Emory.
* All 800 sq ft of tile has been laid in our house. Wow is it great! We FINALLY have a great master bath, main bath and entry/kitchen/laundry room floors, not to mention countertops in both bathrooms and a kitchen backsplash. I am so happy with the results. It was worth walking on plywood (with lots of area rugs) for a year. I feel like the veil of White-trashiness has been lifted. Who knew tile could be so empowering to my self-image? :)
* Thanks to the new flooring, I also have new bathroom cabinents in the main bathroom and in the laundry room. So much new storage; in a house with so little.
* Due to the wonderfully warm weather, Emory and I have cleaned up her playhouse area. I will have to take a picture. I have a great little sitting area nestled in between the playhouse and the swing set. The whole lot of it is under lots of big trees for great shade and a good breeze. Hanging out in the Adirondack chair, watching the kids play, and petting the cat on my lap has been pretty close to heavenly lately. I am enjoying it as much as possible now before the attack of the mosquitos hits later in the summer.
* We are now proud owners of a real chicken house. It is not the prettiest looking contraption, but is seems to do the trick. There is a roosting area with nesting boxes and then an outside area for taunting dogs. Emory has her basket all ready for when they start laying eggs...little does she know it will be quite awhile.

Well, that about covers it I guess. Now that we have a second bathroom, we are open for visitors. Keep in mind the farm is far from finished. There is still lots of work to be done (believe me!), but we would be glad to see you!
